Emmy's Style: On the Streets & On the Scene

It’s award season and there is no greater place to be than Los Angeles. We all know that glamorous gowns, tailored suits and diamonds are expected on the red carpet, but what looks dominate the city sidewalks?
As I approached the notorious Nokia theatre, I could hear the sounds of helicopters capturing media coverage above in the bright blue sky. A fleet of black limousines lined the barricaded street, while attendants wearing red jackets and white gloves, waited patiently for the celebrities to emerge out of their luxury vehicles.
Unlike the hopeful fans waiting to get a glimpse of their favorite Actors, I desired to get a sense of what people wore on the streets of LA during Emmy Award Weekend. I approached the area where the fans congregated and to my surprise I was immediately captivated by vibrant colors and trends.

I decided to wear a fuchsia Bisou Bisou wrap top paired with a calf-length embellished skirt. I fell in love with the skirt trend and heavy embellishments after attending New York Fashion Week and decided to incorporate the elements into my own personal style. I opted for military ankle boots to make my look less “pretty” and added a floppy hat for Boho flair. For accessories I did oversize hoops, multiple rings and mirror shades from Nautica’s latest collection.
Skirts/ Dresses

Skirts and chiffon day dresses appeared throughout the crowd but a few in particular caught my eye. One young woman stood stylishly on the corner wearing a graphic tee paired with a camel leather skirt and reflective aviator shades. Another group of women were picture perfect in vibrant neon’s and nudes.
Edgy/Bold

As I maneuvered throughout the crowd, I found various individuals with an eclectic sense of personal style that appeared casual and effortlessly edgy. Two friends decided to rage against the girlie machine and paired lace tights with boots and Rayban shades. Another girl decided to keep cool in the heat with jean shorts, a suede hat, designer shades and combat boots. However, solidifying bold trends was a young man sporting a denim shirt buttoned to the collar (Big LA trend) paired with black jeans and the popular Adidas Jeremy Scott Gold Wing Shoes.
Shorts

It's not unusual to see people wearing shorts in LA, however, I was pleasantly surprised by the Fashionistas that paired shorts with patterns and embellishments. I loved the black shorts with a pop of color and a sequined vest. Her structured hat, yellow feather earrings and wedge boots were the perfect accents to her ensemble. The other woman paired a sheer leopard shirt, black shorts and a gorgeous statement necklace with olive sunglasses and the PERFECT red lip!
Not only were the people on the sidewalks exhibiting major style but guest put on their finest fashion to attend the event.
Sexy Simplicity

The structure of the red dress is simple yet classic, while the embellishments on the back add glamour. The black dress turned heads with its cutout design and deep v-cut back.
“The Angelia”
No need for a “Who wore it best” moment when both ladies owned their looks! This hot little chiffon number was quite popular (I spotted it 2 more times). The Cobalt blue and black chiffon dress has high splits on both sides that exposed killer heels and toned legs!
Sexy Strapless

Another big trend among attendee’s was the strapless dress. Here, we see a burgundy and gold embellished dress and a crème dress with a high split, paired with embellished pumps.
Intricate Details

My FAVORITE! An incredibly chic nude dress with a black lace overlay, paired with nude ankle boots. The look was accessorized with over sized sunglasses and a bold red lip.
Accessories

Accessories are a major part to the completion of a perfect look. I found that while many women opted to keep things simple, others were unafraid of wearing bold statement necklaces.
The Unexpected

Nothing is better than having fun with style and playing with unexpected accents. The multicolored bowtie, leopard loafers and porcelain painted bag were extremely unique.
What’s street style without a few celebrity looks! Here are some trends from Industry Insiders.
Black

Black dominated the evening, as many women opted for classic black dresses in dramatic designs. Giuliana Rancic showed some skin with a strapless Rafael Cennamo floor length gown with a thigh high split.

We also spotted Actress, Model and Pro- Athlete Hannah Cornett in a strapless black gown.
Color

Pastels were major this year and Kelly Osbourne led the pack with a beautiful purple one shoulder dress by Zac Posen. We spotted Kelly darting back to her hotel during a commercial break.
Contemporary Gentlemen

Several celebrity men were quite dapper, while others took a unique and bold approach to Emmy style. Ross Matthews went wild with a patterned jacket and Kevin Frazier added a pop of color with a purple tie. Fashion tastemaker and Elle Editor Joe Zee, kept his look classic and sophisticated.
Whether they cheered from the sidewalks or made acceptance speeches, style reigned supreme in LA for the Emmy Awards.
